Netflix is an American over-the-top subscription media service founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997. Netflix is best known for providing streaming media, video-on-demand and DVD by mail. Since 2013, Netflix has actively branched into television and movie production as well as distribution; these titles are known as Netflix Originals, and live exclusively on Netflix's platform.

Since the debut of its first Netflix Original, House of Cards, Netflix has greatley expanded its foot in development and production of both televison and movie series. Since then, Netflix has produced over 126 Original series and movies, putting it ahead of any other OTT streaming service in thr world. Netflix has over 137 million subscribers globally, with 58.46 million are in the United States. The service is home of the mystery-period drama, 1899.
